MAPPING INEQUALITY:
Latinos and Toxics in SiliconValley

Researchers Andrew Szasz and Michael Mueser at the University of California, Santa Cruz found that Latinos and other low-income minorities of the Valley consistently live in areas with the most toxic emissions.

This map of 1990 census tracts shows how Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) emissions overlap with Latino population in Santa Clara county, California's capital of high-tech industry.

Areas with lower Latino population (lighter colored tracts) show few, if any, of these facilities.
